Hail Damage to Your Painted Finishes

Hail Damage To Your Painted Finishes

Parts of Prescott get a little bit of hail, five or six times a year. And parts of Prescott will get severe hail damage to your painted finishes once or twice a year. But I am only really concerned about the hail that approaches the size of a pencil eraser or larger.

Whenever we get enough hail that can accumulate on the ground it should be a concern that there may be damage to your home. Once hail is the size of a pencil eraser or larger; it can create dents in your wood deck or wood railing. Sometimes this causes damage on your facia or other wood trim. It is not just missing paint that you should be looking for. When hail dents your wooden surfaces, it creates a small crack. Water will get into these cracks and cause the paint to fail in the future. These are totally insurable events.

And absolutely we get hail that is larger than that. It really should be inspected. Parts of Prescott can get golf ball size hail, at least every other year. There will be damage to your home in this case. Painted finishes get damaged when this happens. I have even seen it damage stucco.

Most people are just concerned about the damage to their roof from the hail event. And I can certainly give you a good recommendation for a roofer to give you an inspection. It seems to me that if you have an asphalt shingle roof; you will have damage from hail at some point before the roof meets its life expectancy. Even a little bit of hail, five or six times a year will eventually cause damage to your asphalt shingles.
