⏩ Can I Paint Behind Garage Door Weather Strips?
When you’re overhauling the exterior paint of your home, your garage is most likely going to be repainted, too. All garage doors have a weather strip seal bordering the door, and are often cream colored. Many people ask me, “Can you paint behind my garage door weather strip?” in an effort to avoid having a white strip around the garage door.
In short: no. When using top quality, 100% acrylic paints, they contain an ingredient called plasticizers. They’re designed to remain flexible throughout their life span. Your garage door weather strip has the exact same ingredients, creating an attraction to each other. Essentially, they want to stick to each other. The last thing you want is to have your garage door stuck because the weather strip and garage door are gluing together.
